D & P Hard at Work |
Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire 15 & 16 November 2008
The NABAS Show 2008 began once again with the Design & Portfolio Day which was organised by Sue Marston Weston of Conwin. She managed to bring together a group of International Teachers to work on the day with the 55 delegates who had booked to attend (this number grows each year). Together they created a fabulous setting for the "1001 Arabian Nights" themed party that was to take place that evening.
I spoke with many of the delegates, all of whom said they had thoroughly enjoyed the day and would without hesitation return next year. Both the delegates and teachers worked extremely hard throughout the day but the end results was absolutely stunning and played a big role in the success of the party.
The entrabne was decorated with a showcase piece by Michael Gjerek of Belbal who created a flying carpet and genie lamp to set the scene for the party goers.
Once again I believe the party surpassed everyones expectations and there were huge groans of disappointment when the party came to an end. With the combination of good food, fine wine, great entertainment in the form of Rafael from Belgium who was simply hilarious, and a live band who seemed to have endless energy and gave us great music, I feel confident when I say that it is THE industry party and I am sure that anubody who was present would support that claim!
The exhibition on Sunday was a little disappointing with both exhibitor and delegate numbers down on previous years and there may be many reasons for this not least of which could be the current global economic crisis. However, once again we had an impressive array of teachers from across Europe delivering a variety of classes including some marketing and business options to help everybody through the current economy. The classes were all very well received with the delegates benefitting from the lower attendance and I believe that they will now be better prepared to face the coming months. I am sure that exhibitors will have seen a drop in footfall to their stands this year but I hope that those they did see will have been serious leads and will turn into loyal customers.
As always the NABAS committee will be reviewing the show to assess future plans but in the meantime I would like to thank all those who took part and hope that they all enjoyed the weekend.

FEEDBACK
The event was very good, informative and very enjoyable. However I personally felt that the venue was a bit cold, could have been a bit warmer – other than that very good. Frank Dwan
We just wanted to say a big thank you for organising a fantastic event. We had a brilliant amazing time, particularly at the design & portfolio day where we enjoyed the whole thing. This was a first for us, but we will certainly be attending next time. Although the exhibition did not have as many exhibitors as we were expecting we still had a great time. Many thanks again!

Andy and myself would like to say a huge thank you for organising the NABAS weekend. We had a brilliant time and felt warmly welcomed. It was our first design and portfolio day and dinner and will not miss one ever again. The hotel was also brilliant and we will definitely stay there again for the weekend. Can you also advise me whether NABAS will be putting on any workshops at The Spring Fair in February the same as last year? Once again thank you all so much.

Thanks to Nabas for all your hard work yesterday, pity about the people who did not support the show or the exhibitors who failed to take part.

Just thought I better put a comment on here since I did attend the NABAS show and entered competitions for the first time and won 2 first prizes and NABAS Decorator of the Year. I was amazed. I would like to thank everyone there who gave me much encouragement and support, I really appreciated it. It certainly was not easy and finding the time to commit to practising has been hard and stressful. Thanks to Amanda, Marc, Philomena and Pam who all kept me going when I was tired and uncertain. I would have like to have met up with a few more people from the forum but there just did not seem any time to do that. It does not matter how many times you go to these things (and let us face it there are not enough of them) you always learn something new. The party was fantastic and the decor was brilliant, if only we all had customers that had the budget to be able to create that kind of decor!
