Paul Bloomer - Bloomers Balloons
Having been a member of NABAS since 2004, I was co-opted onto the committee in the Retailer / Decorator category in November 2010 and fully elected in June 2011.
I am quite recently divorced with 3 adult sons Christopher, Matthew and Adam, a grandson Nathan and a granddaughter Ruby. I like DIY and have recently bought a 1900 terraced house that I am busy renovating and improving and loving every minute. When not DIYing, I will either be reading, cycling, computing or occasionally swimming.
My business base is a shop in Bolton selling balloons, cards, gifts and party accessories but my main focus is on balloon decor for parties, and events. I have two websites and am working on an e-commerce enablement that should be live in a month or so to provide greater scope for the retail end of the business.
I have been on numerous courses and portfolio days with NABAS and am a Qualatex CBA. Training to achieve a good quality of work is something I believe in whole heartedly. I love going to portfolio days and conferences & meeting like minded people in the industry. I can twist and balloon sculpt quite well but have not acquired the bug to compete in competition.
Teaching is something I enjoyed in an earlier life training programmers and analysts in the computer industry and teaching still does appeal to me - maybe I will take my PTLLS certification later this year and teach balloon courses, who knows :)
I still enjoy computing and am currently the guy driving the NABAS Facebook and website updates and upgrades. I do not tweet but NABAS has a Twitter page so maybe I will have to persevere and improve my tweeting to build NABAS a following on Twitter.
I would really like to see the NABAS members take an interest in their association & get involved with the Facebook & website - news & views and submit interesting articles and pictures of their work. It would be great if more people could try to attend the shows & events - hopefully this will be easier now we are introducing regional events. We probably have as diverse a collection of individuals on the committee as there has ever been and also with a wide selection of backgrounds, knowledge and expertise.I am hoping that the members will each see something of themselves in one of us and be motivated to lend a hand by contributing news, views, pictures and comments to help us all move forward as individuals and as THE industry association that is NABAS.
