Ada Elliott
I have been in the balloon and party industry now for almost 15 years. Originally Patrick [my husband] and I ran a successful balloon decorating business in London – Cloud 9 Designs.
In 2002 we relocated to Northern Ireland. At that time the balloon decorating business was relatively small with only a handful of decorators throughout Ireland. Although relatively successful we found it extremely difficult to source all the products we needed within Ireland and had to regularly turn to mainland wholesalers for stock. This of course added additional time and expense to our business costs.
After discussing possibilities with suppliers we decided to open a wholesale unit. Being very close to the North/South border this meant we could easily trade throughout Ireland. I am glad to say our wholesale business has gone from strength to strength.
As you know I have been fortunate enough to become a NABAS Approved Trainer and have completed the City & Guilds course.
My background gives me a unique insight into the many factors that make up a successful balloon business. Working as a trainer/wholesaler I meet people not only from all over Ireland but also from all sectors of the industry.
I would hope that I could bring a wholesaler/trainer perspective to the Committee which would add to the wealth of experience and expertise it already has. It is never a case of joining a Committee to make changes but rather to build on what has already been achieved. Independent trade associations are vital to the success of any industry and NABAS is no different. The Committee’s success should mirror the success of it’s members and vice versa.
